Fontbonne Volleyball Sweeps Diocesan Championships

Both the junior varsity and varsity volleyball teams from Fontbonne Hall Academy in Bay Ridge won their respective Brooklyn/Queens volleyball championship over rival St. Francis Prep.

The JV team went on to win the N.Y.C. championship, while the varsity team represented the diocese at the state championships in Buffalo, N.Y.

IHM Volunteers Serve Water at NYC Marathon

A group of 11 volunteers from Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Windsor Terrace helped run the Mile 6 water station of the N.Y.C. Marathon on Nov. 2.

Volunteering is the norm at IHM, but the marathon offered this group the unique opportunity of providing a vital service to runners while also showing their New York City pride.

TMLA Wins GCHSAA State Tennis Championship

For the first time in school history, The Mary Louis Academy varsity tennis team won the GCHSAA state championship Oct. 23.

The Hilltoppers won all five matches over St. Joseph Hill at the College of Staten Island.

NYPD Youth Boxing Program Teaches Discipline

Active duty and retired NYPD officers run a successful youth boxing ring in the basement of the Flatbush Gardens Housing Complex.

Though boxing sometimes is considered a violent sport, these kids are actually taught proper methods of self defense as well as discipline, responsibility and respect.
